View Full Version : Mercruiser power trim system

I have just fitted the engine/outdrive unit, mercruiser 140hp, into the boat I have been building and I am having some troubles with the hydraulic lifting system for the outdrive system. The pump runs in both the up and down positions but the outdrive unit will only raise about two inches and then stop. The pump is still running, reversing the process will lower the unit. The pump, I think, is an Oildyne with a metal reservoir and the outdrive is an Alpha One. Circa 1984. The engine runs great and drived the boat at a comfortable 25 knots at 3600 rpm. The ride is smooth and dry but I have to get that drive up. Are there rebuild kits available for the rams and the pump??? Thanks . Roger

you may only have the trim wired up on the pump.

the unit may have trim and trailer switch set up on it. check wiring on the pump and your lift switch.
and make sure your fluid level is correct.

does the drive drive lower nice and smooth ?
and smooth for the 2 inches of lift you have going up?

adjust your trim indicaters and see if the amount of lift changes..
but then return them cause 2 inches is about max trim on stern drives.
