I recently was Lucky enough to purchase a Graves Constellation,in nearly original condition I was told.
Can anyone out there get there hands on some original specs. so that I might compare to the current inventory and condition? I had never seen or heard of these so I bought it just because she had a 'pretty bottom'..LOL
I was looking for a sailing Freighter when I found her on line.I think about the only thing she will haul is"butt".
After nearly 50 years of sailing I couldn't pass on her so I took a shot and I got her,Now I find that I am quit taken by her,and would like to know more about her. She came with 4 Jibs, #1-#2-#3 and storm,a Genny, plus a main 6 total was that standard?
I can't wait to splash her.

They were built by Graves yacht Yard of Marblehead, MA.
Any that I knew were used for family daysailing or weekender use. In that use, it'd be unusual to have such an elaborate sail inventory. I'd suspect that the designer (Alden or someone in the Alden office?) drew a sail plan with indications of the dimensions of whatever sails an owner might require of a sailmaker.

Pretty boat. Never sailed one.

Congratulations.

Thanks for your reply,
I am searching everywhere for more info.I have tried online to find the Yards site but I haven't been able to hit the right combo yet although,FYI, there is a good article done by James Graves about the history of the Yard.It is very interesting.
Thanks again,
Doc

Designed by L. Francis Herreshoff and Selman Graves. I expect most sailmakers in these parts would hav a sail plan, but I wonder if the plans are at Mystic among the LFH plans.
