Hello,

I am building a Newt solo canoe and I am deviating from the original plans a little. I am not going to use the braces that I show here for side support. I am going to glass the entire boat inside and out. My question is, will that be strong enough for should I install cross members for more side support. I would like to not have them but I will if need be.

Thanks!

I am not familiar with your design, but if the designer is still alive, it may be a worthwhile question to address to him or her.
However, considering the importance of weight or rather the need for as little weight as possible for most canoes, the hull scantlings may be such that the designer fully expects the "braces" or cross-members/thwarts to contribute significantly to the canoes overall integrity and longevity.

Hope you get a clearer response from the designer.

Cheers!
