Hello all,

I'm looking for plans for a car top-able strip built (not plywood) beach cat/proa/?. I'd like something fast, fun, simple & a good snorkeling platform. Any ideas?

There used to be something called a MALABU OUTRIGGER that was popular in California in BH (Before Hobie). I don't know much about it, but the few pictures I saw indecated it was small and was intended to be lauched off a beach.

Something small enough to car-top easily. If I needed to use a trailer, I'd rarely use it & storage would be a problem for me.

I don't think there's anything wrong with plywood-stitch & glue, I just really like the look & smooth curves that you can get with cedar strips. Plus I enjoy the process more.

I did search on the internet for a while before I posted, & I've found quite a few plywood plans. The only suitable stripper plans that I've found so far is the Warren-21. I like it alot, but I'd also like to have some options.

Also, what I mean when I say "simple" is in the ease of setup/use, not in the building. I don't care if it takes me a year's worth of nights & weekends to build & I like a challenge. I'd like a simple setup such as a few parts & an unstayed windsurf mast/sail or equivalent.

Richard Woods has a Car topable 14 ft.Pixie that could be done in strip even though it was designed for ply, weighs 160 lbs..His designs are fast.I like his Quatro 14 and 16 ft . but 300 pounds.Problem with smaller Car topable cats is you can't put much weight on them 1-2 light people (if that).

Type "Malibu Outrigger" into your brouser. You will find all kinds of stuff about outriggers, proas etc.
