I love the old country music that I grew up with during the 60's. Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Kitty Wells, Mell Tillis, etc. I stopped listening to country when Barbara Mandrell came along. We still had a few clubs around here that would have a good Honky Tonk cover band occasionally but even that dried up 10 years ago. Listening to it on a CD just doesn't work for me I need my fix from a live band with a dance floor.

This weekend I got my fix! EJ and I went to the annual Dance Flurry Festival in Saratoga Springs NY this weekend. There is just about every type of music and dance style you can think of, but country and western has traditionally been under-served. Every couple of years they bring in an all girl band called "Girl Howdy" who do a great job with the old Honky Tonk standards.

I had to drag my wife (who hates country music) out of some hippie-sheot drum circle to show her some 2 step and Texas swing. She had the best time of the whole weekend. I woke up late this morning to find my wife had bought all their CD's and was dancing with the dog to "Crazy Arms" Y> http://www.girlhowdyband.com/index.html

Honky tonk piano, steel guitars, sweet harmonies and hurtin' lyrics. I love it.The only thing missing is a fiddle. Thanks for that.
