to repair a lapstrake hull (27 feet), I need to put the boat out of the water for 2-3 years. Could that be a problem?

Should be no problem if she is blocked up properly. After a month or so she will leak like a sieve when she hits the water (for a couple of days) anyway, so a couple of years won't be any worse. - What kind of boat & who built her?

May depend upon how old and whether iron fastened to oak frames. See the very early WB articl on Gauntlet.

Taking the boat out of the water is never the problem. Putting it back in is. If the boat is tight now, she'll probably tighten up just fine after you relaunch her. It may take a few days, even a week, but she'll tighten up. What's the planking made from?

My lapstake folkboat was out of the water for about 10 years befor I put her back in. I spent a week or two running a sprinkler system in her, then launched. She was in the slings overnight, but took up ok after that.

This year I had coated the inside of the boat with raw linseed oil, and it took more like two days for her to swell. The marina that I use doesn't launch boats on the weekends, so they will let it sit in the slings all weekend long for $100.

Good luck, and what is the boat?
