The New Haven Sharpie "WB" plans arrived from Mystic Seaport Museum the other day. Looking over the plans caused me to remember that Tim Weaver wrote a series of articles for Messing About In Boats on his boat "Patina." I am now on a quest to hunt those articles down and was wondering if anyone has packed away in some attic space the following issues (the columns are for volume/issue/page):

If you don't have 'em, do you know of a library that might? I could get them to copy the articles for a fair price, I think.

Thanks,

Dennis

Dennis,

You might call Bob Hicks. He's not digital, but mentioned recently that he has some back issues. Can your library get copies for you on ILL?

Dennis:

The article on Patina was also run in The Ash Breeze Winter 2001/Spring 2002. I would think that you could get copies of these from Mystic, but if you have any problems, let me know, and I'll get copies off to you. That is, assuming that I can find them all. A bit unorganized, don't you know.

Hi, Kevin and Dave, thanks for the replies. I am in the process of checking with the Library. Next stop, Bob Hicks. If that is a bust, Kevin, I will be in touch.

Dave, BTW, was out in Inscrutable on a "river cruise" this afternoon. My friend slapped a 35lb thrust trolling motor on her transom and we scooted around at a pretty good clip. She maneuvers under power just as she does under sail -- quick, responsive. What a great boat! I should have kept it!

Cheers,

Dennis

Dennis:

Fine. I have always felt something special for the New Haven sharpie. My dad bought our first boat on Quinnipiac Avenue, Fair Haven, New Haven and it was a sharpie. It was not set up for sailing though. I never could figure out why the front end and the tail were always out of the water. God, that thing was heavy too, Launch day always meant a whole bunch of work, but I would have taken that boat anywhere.

Take care

Kevin
