View Full Version : What design style is this?

I was just fortunate enough to recently adopt my first wooden boat, and I have been unable to determine what her hull design is labled.
She appears to be well made, with lapstrake style construction, but instead of joining at a stem, the tip of the bow is about 1' square tapered flat with what appears to be a post for a bowsprit.
She's 16' loa, and it seems like her bow will sit high out of the water.

Similar to a sailing dory, she has a full transom, and two rowing stations, with a forward bench at the mast, which stands just in front of her centerboard.

Is there anywhere, or anyone, I could go to for info on a design style that I have?

Thanks for the help.

It sounds like a very cool boat. Any chance of a picture?

Almost sounds like a Norwegian-style Pram, which would look something like the one on this site, though, off the top of my head, I can't remember ever seeing one with a bowsprit:

I just saw a picture. Not a pram or a scow. Hopefully he can post a picture to the forum so that those more knowledgable folks can give an informed answer.

Patrick sent me a picture and it looks to me like it's based on one of the large Prams from Eastern Norway. If somebody wants to host the photo, maybe we can get some more opinions.

:D It looks like Todd has given me a good direction to follow for this, it looks like a match to this one (Scroll down the page 1/2 way):

If any one is interested in taking a look at a few other pictures of mine let me know.
Thanks for continued help.

Norwegian pram, the only watercraft currently in my shop. Similar to the Thad Danielson pram referenced earlier. This is an 11 foot example, cedar planked, larch frames, and spruce rails.
Read all about it in WB issue #49
