A summation of the entirety of the Jewish experience in three sentences.

    They tried to kill us.

    We survived.

    Let's eat!

The doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind.
Personal failures are too important to be trusted to others.

The OP is a mildly humorous, mildly depreciative poke at latter day Jewish culture, like chicken soup jokes.
It's prolly only distasteful if you are Jewish and a Goy tells it, or if you are one of those people that don't really get the humourous pathos of it, but feel a need to protest on "their" behalf because it's politically correct.
I outgrew that a long time ago.

I heard the quote, listening to the below linked conversation last night. And as Norman pointed out, I'm sure its a very old joke, probably been around since about the time of Moses. It was a fascinating discussion on happiness though. I've heard the show twice now this year. I'd recommend it to anybody. I'd be especially interested to hear the comments of those that often find themselves debating on the various 'god/is there a god/is samf a good catholic' threads. If Norman, Lew Barrett, Soundbounder, or Donn (or any other person with a legitimate claim of being offended) were to complain about the original post's distastefulness I reckon I might be compelled to take it down.

Here's a link to the Dalai Lama, an Islamic Scholar, the chief Rabbi of England, and the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church discussing happiness and beauty: link

I've heard better jokes at the Hakoah Club, but I probably can't repeat them here.

rbgarr posts pics of Bettie Page from time to time and gets away with it with no repercussions. Perhaps because she's often 'lounging' on a wooden boat. . .
