Anatidaephobia is defined as a pervasive, irrational fear that one is being watched by a duck. The anatidaephobic individual fears that no matter where they are or what they are doing, a duck watches.

I know it's serious, I do, I do .:D

It's not just a phobia... it's the chilling, little-known truth!

What's irrational? They are watching.

Living in Oregon it's something you just get used to.

He is using the duck as a periscope.

Hey, you still don't have your ducks in a row. That's a fair curve.

Many years ago, in Chestertown there used to be a huge white duck that would attack people on the docks all the time. It ws a town favorite..almost a mascot. It died. Chestertown folks were upset about the duck's death and practically closed down the town to give the duck a well attended funeral on the waterfront. Ashes were scattered out on the river with some heart felt tributes to this bird. All sad and moopy. I was in Oxford when the news filtered down to my area..
at the time, I knew of an identical white duck hanging out at the local watering hole in Oxford. All white, webbed feet, nasty bird and not afraid of anyone. My light bulbs were lit on the potential of introducing a replacement in Chestertown.I would grab the beast, stuff it into a bag at night, drive up to Chestertown and release it on the docks.I could just envision the locals seeing the new bird and immediately thinking the ressurection was a miracle*Even got some others to vol in the effort but like many I thought brilliant ideas disappeared. It started as something simple and feasible but became a logistical nightmare.

Jamie -- That was a goose. And there's now a statue there by the waterfront in its honor. Chestertown isn't an ordinary sort of town.

Woxbox thought it was just a very large white duck..Named Lucy as I recall...The replacement I had in mind was also a goose more than likely as well..Very big, very white etc.A statue? WOW! Still got a mental kick out of thinking about the replacement idea..:)*Look at the bright side I wasn't pulling anyones webbed feet here.:)

Ducks' Ditty
All along the backwater,
Through the rushes tall,
Ducks are a-dabbling,
Up tails all!
Ducks' tails, drakes' tails,
Yellow feet a-quiver,
Yellow bills all out of sight
Busy in the river!
Slushy green undergrowth
Where the roach swim—
Here we keep our larder,
Cool and full and dim.
Everyone for what he likes!
We like to be
Heads down, tails up,
Dabbling free!
High in the blue above
Swifts whirl and call—
We are down a-dabbling
Up tails all!

Kenneth Graham
