I rode a not really broke horse to thanksgiving (1 mile)... in the dark. The critter only (almost) fell two or three times.
She had never been ridden though she had been led around before with a rider
I alomost had her neck reigning (it helped that I followed another slightly better trained horse.

gotta tell ya... it's been so long since I rode, had trouble getting my leg over and it hurt my hip. after the short ride (quite comfortable), every time I rose out of a chair, the muscles in my legs fluttered quite a bit

First time I rode a horse he started off at a nice walk, and all went well. So I gave him a heel nudge and he trotted, once again all went well. I began to think, this is easy, nothing to it !!!!! So I gave him my heels a little harder and a galloping we did go !! For about 50 yards it went real well, and he really picked up speed......... Then he planted his front legs, his rear shot up and I did the most beautiful flying W you've ever seen right over his head. Since I had totally let go of the reins, he turned and trotted back to the barn. It was a long, sore walk back..........

When I got back he was already in the corral. I just glared at him, but he just turned his backsides to me and wouldn't look me in the eye. Outsmarted by a big, dumb animal........or maybe I was the big, dumb animal..... :)

regards,
Waddie

No headlights on horses? ;)I'm thinking more along the lines of an orange triangle on the horse's transom.:)

that's why we took the route we did... staying away from the roads and that took us down a wash in the dark with lots of wood left over from the ice storm 3 years ago. ducking around and stepping over and such... in the dark... only had my hat torn off once

I used to ride my neighbor's ponies. I didn't realize for a while that they could recognize and identify specifically, hawthorne bushes...:)

now THAT'S funny, Jamie

truly, however, I am glad to have finally swung aboard again... I've put this off almost too long and now I intend to keep the ball rolling until I'm either in better shape or convinced to stop altogether

I'd bet that if I can overcome my stiffness and such that I could get into/out of your dink much easier
