Just goes to show... it aint the tool that makes the craftsman. It's a certain amount of talent combined with familiarity with the tools you do have.

I love lathe work, but can't justify the floor space. The need is seldom, and I'm not good/fast enough to make any real money at it. It's still hugely satisfying work.

He's talented without a doubt, but if his aim is to turn out chess pieces rather than be a tourist attraction, then he's seriously hampered by the crude equipment he's using. Any five hundred dollar Craigslist lathe would elevate his incomes fourfold.
