Thinking about building an "Acorn skiff"
I started a piscataqua river wherry, but decided I didn't like it's shape as I was planking it, so stopped. Being a virgin boat builder I'd appreciate any comments pro or con, about this design...

WAIT!!!! I was mistakenly reading the caption for 1 picture, while looking at another! It's the "Cat's paw dinghy" I was really thinking of building.
This goes to show what will happen when the brain works for a different boss than the eye....

Both the Acorn skiff and the Catspaw dinghy are great designs. Next time I'd suggest building a model first. It's a lot cheaper if you decide not to continue and it will save you a lot of time if you decide to build the real thing because you will already have figured out how things go together.

I like the Piscataqua river wherry, something I've considered building. Have you seen the actual boat at Mystic Seaport? I hear it's nice to build. I also like the Acorn and the Catspaw. Very different boats.

I've seen both the Piscataqua river wherry at Mystic, and another one I just happened to notice in someones driveway. It was the one I saw in a driveway, from a distance, and at a more natural angle than the one at Mystic, that made me realise that it was not the boat I wanted.
As far as building a model goes... Good idea but... I build furniture for a living, so to me building a model first would be like building the boat twice, but only getting to use it once... Thanks for the feed back though!
