Set in maybe 1890, I just re-watched the one in "Open Range". Totally unrealistic, as is most of Hollywood, but it was kind of inspiring. Two determined men, one a good hand with guns and the other gutsy, face down the black hats in a small town in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

We're talking good and evil. It's a tough fight, we're talking two righteous men against maybe twenty who are in the pay of the corrupt.

As the townspeople realize what righteous men these two are, some begin to gather courage and look to their shotguns.

Violent, without being graphic, it has a...oh, I won't give away the ending. Robert Duvall, Kevin Costner, Annette Benning. All well played, IMHO.

Haven't seen it yet, looked good on paper but never got around to watch it, but the finale in Pale Rider was not bad. While not the first movie Eastwood directed, it was the first where you began to see real talent in that regard, and he never looked back, it was followed by consistently good work afterward in rapid succession and for the next 25 years and counting.

The horse wasn't Newt's. Call was protecting him, though.

Quite the whupping.

Oh yeah, that's right, it was Dish's horse.

It's been a few years, I might have to break out the old VHS player one of these nights...

When Little Bill beat English Bob, that was pretty memorable.
'The Unforgiven'

Gene Hackman plays "Little" Bill Daggett (a role for which he was awarded an Oscar) - a ruthless small town sheriff who will do anything to keep law and order in Big Whiskey, Wyoming. Richard Harris plays a hired and famous gunfighter named English Bob and Saul Rubinek plays W.W. Beauchamp - English Bob's biographer and myth maker. The film uses these three to great affect and really talks about the American western legend with these characters.
