Anyone know anything about the new R Boat in Seattle? Saw her out sailing last Friday. Hot...

I used to sail on R 57 on Lake Ontario in the 70's. Last 'big' wooden racer that I was on.

The Seattle one I know of is PIRATE, and I believe she is based at the Center for Wooden Boats on Lake Union. There are some other rebuilt ones in this region....Vancouver for example.

There is a new one around. She is all bright finished - looked like mahogany. Didn't get the name. Maybe new construction...

R-Boats have a special place in my heart. I have raced on, raced against and done restoration work on "Debra", "Aloha" and "Pirate. When Matt Walsh returned from trouncing the fleet at Larchmont with "Pirate" he pitted his 28' Common Sense Class Sloop CS 5 against her over a 15mile course in LA Harbor. The result was that the Common Sense beat "Pirate" by nearly half an hour. Since I now own #5, Scott Rohrer, the man repsonsible for her restoration, is chomping at the bit for a rematch which, we hope to stage once "Red Witch" is rebuilt and launched in Port Townsend. Jay
