I'm about to install the glass in the windshield of my 26' Bartender and I know to bed the glass against the frame, but what about the 3/8" quarter round stops around the outside? On the one hand, if I don't caulk/bed them then water can get down between the stops and the glass. They will be pre-finished, but I don't like the idea of water getting trapped there. If I do caulk/bed them then they'll be impossible to remove (if needed) without destroying them. My glass supplier strongly recommended against caulking behind them for that very reason. He suggested just running a tiny bead at the stop / glass joint after they're installed to try and at least keep most of the water out. I'm sure that would help but it doesn't sound like a very good solution.
I've searched and researched this question but haven't found if there's any accepted good practice. Does anyone know?
Thanks!
