Can anyone id this boat? Where can building plans be obtained? Does anyone have one of these boats? The link below has a review of the boat I'm refering to.

I don't know what it is. Does not look much like an "Indian" to me. The proportions work great, I'm not sure why because aestheitically that cabin would seem too big for the hull. Another proof that boats are like women. Looks don't follow rules. She's stunning.

Some regulars on this forum are going to go Goo Gaa over this one.

The link has the review author's email address. Why not ask him and post his reply.

Drop dead gorgeous. Post a pic in the "pretty in plywood" thread.

Nice. Plenty of leads to follow to track down the builder. The boat's bow number is a clue.

Darn. My boat could have been built like that. Iain Oughtred missed the boat. :D

That is stunning, I think the cabin aesthetics work partly because of the great amount of camber in the roof. Also the massive quarter knees supporting the mast, keep it clear of the cabin. That is really something, if anyone turns up plans, please post the info.

I was smitten by that boat too and have been interested in getting more information, plans, etc.

Sure like that Oyster sloop that was in this post too:

I think this sailboat may be the Meadowbird designed by Karl Stambaugh. The profile drawing on the thread "Centerboard Plywood Ketch or Schooner wanted" around posting 19 looks very similar to your color photos. Dean

Dean,

Sorry but Meadowbird doesn't have an 18' LOD, she's shorter and has a different, flat roof, IIRC. She's really small.

I can definitely see why you would want to build this. She's a beaut. The 24v 70 thrust lb electric motor is definitely a good idea as I ponder one for my Elver. In fact, the more I think about it the better it sounds.

Some info:

Builder is designer.

He "... will redraw "Ataraxia" to incorporate some small changes, ie. increased sail area, ballast, engine power, increased freeboard, mast and centreboard placement, etc. but always keeping the essential character of the boat."

The dry weight is about 1,000 lbs, the displacement about 1,700 lbs.

Build time about 1500 hours.

An attractive boat, and to all appearances a good performer.

I'd like to see an independent review of her performance and handling qualities.

Nothing against her designer/builder, you know. It's just that we tend to favor the children of our minds as much as we do those of our bodies. :D

Alan, I don't think the review in the link above was written by the builder if that's what you are refering to. Sure is a nice boat.

Well J P , I can't really tell.

The relationship, if any, isn't made clear, that I saw.

Anyone here know???

The owner replied to me with this:

Ataraxia was built by custom boat builder Tim Cox. Mr. Cox now resides
in Florida and can be reached at:
timothymcox@bellsouth.net

I haven't contacted Tim Cox yet to find out anything new.
