I'd like to know about this design as well. If it's from Joel White it's got to be good.

There was a good article on this in WB Sept '95. The boat was 'Lala'. You might want to look there also.

They are built by Edey and Duff in a fiberglass version. The canoe stern might be a difficult one to plank and frame. I'm not convinced that Mr. White, or perhaps it was E&D's moldmakers, got the shape right. I think the sheer is too flat aft (looking at the fg version that sails nearby) and think that the Fox Island 22 (?), also by Joel White is a better design and would be easier to build for a boat that size/type. It looks like it might sail better, given a bit more sail area, as newer versions have been given, than the 23' double ender.

The sheerline should be corrected by the builder on the lofting board. This is common practice for builders building boats with wide bows ( and sterns in this case.)The boat is very pretty when built right. There is a transom version of the centerboard sloop by Joel White that I suspect is easier to build and may be faster under sail. It being a centerboard design, it makes good sense to cold mold the hull.
A very similar design is the Hodgdon 21; a lead keeled daysailer that is carvel planked. It's just a little prettier than the 23 ft. centerboard sloop to my eyes. Plus, it's more fun to build. Consequently, I just bought the plans for it.

Hey rb-
What's this about an enlarged sailplan for the fox island? I've looked hard at the design but concerns about sail area are holding me back (it's ALL light air around here).

I remember a version in the Launchings section of a WB issue not too long ago that showed a new one that had a larger sailplan.
The sheer 'can' be corrected on the lofting, but isn't always.
