Unashamed C&P here.
"Footage shot inside North Korea and obtained by the ABC has revealed the extent of chronic food shortages and malnutrition inside the secretive state.
The video is some of the most revealing footage ever smuggled out of the impoverished North Korean state (http://www.abc.net.au/news/video/2011/06/27/3253966.htm).
Shot over several months by an undercover North Korean journalist, the harrowing footage shows images of filthy, homeless and orphaned children begging for food and soldiers demanding bribes.
The footage also shows North Koreans labouring on a private railway track for the dictator's son and heir near the capital Pyongyang.
Strolling up to the site supervisor, the man with the hidden camera asks what is going on.
"This rail line is a present from Kim Jong-il to comrade Kim Jong-un," he is told."

Then they have very little to lose, and that makes them more dangerous than ever. Really, really sad.

I think that a win-win would be to hire NK to keep the peace in Iraq and Afghanistan. NK would get cash money they desperately need, our diplomatic relations with them would improve, we could get out of those places, NK would probably work cheaper, thus reducing the deficit, and the natives of those two countries would remember the Americans with fondness.

What makes you think China is not in charge now?

David, you are a nasty, nasty man :D. You're correct though - they'd be begging us to come back. NK army is NOT easygoing and the ROE would probably be something that would make Temujin blanch.

North Korea looks very different to China.

China might have liked NK as a loose cannon and buffer state but as things change in China it may become an embarrasment. But not an easy one to jettison given the history between them. NK will only continue as long as China has a use for their attitude as a thorn in the side of japan and the US.

North Korea is a source of slave labor for China. And I mean actual slaves.

Nothing there would surprise me, I wonder if there is the capacity left amongst the population for anything else?
