Does anybody know of a wooden runabout called a Glen-ell? I got that spelling right off the steering wheel, which is orange and white similar to a 60’s car. This boat is from the mid fifties and looks a bit like a Chris-Craft runabout. It’s quite beamy and is mahogany planked and has a mahogany strip deck. Not much tumblehome and it was fitted with an outboard originally. It’s about 16 feet long and I am told that they were made in Mississauga Ontario.

I think it's Glen-L. It's not a boat it's a boat design outfit. I saw their ad in the back of Woodenboat for many years. They had a very extensive catalog of designs.
Give Glen-l a google.

Try this site. They are very much alive and in business. I am building one of their boats right now. Good to do business with.

Sorry guys I should have pointed out that this is not to be confused with the Glen-L boats. As I said it is spelled Glen-ell.

Could it be Grenell or Grenelle? Here is a picture of a boat by Grenelle and the seller says it is Canadian

Chris, that looks like the boat I have seen. Mind you, the windshield is off and all the components are off at the moment. Wheel, controls, seats, all chrome hardware, etc. The shape is very similar though. I’ll check out the windshield again to see if there is that distinctive chrome frame.

Do you know any more about it or are there any more shots of this boat?

Its Grennel and they were built in Vancouver BC. They were a west coast status symbol. there was a big article in Pacific Yachting some years ago.
