Reading posts on other forums, seems that Gymseal is an appropriate product for a teak cabin sole. Hard wearing, non-skid clear finish It is made by Valspar. Anyone have any experiences with this product? Or perhaps other products to recommend? Teak oil?

I noticed that Valspar also is marketing a Marine enamel. A little off topic, but I am wondering now about both of these products.

I will be painting the topsides this spring so, would welcome some comment on that as well. I know a number of folks like the McCloskey Man o war spar varnish which is also a Valspar product.

The previous owner of my boat used Gymseal on the cabin sole and he swore by the stuff. I hated it as soon as I saw it; it’s dark, kinda cloudy (apparently high solids) and hides the grain and color of the teak. To be fair I’m not sure how much of the darkness is the age of the finish. I’m not sure when he put it on, but I’ve had the boat for 11 years and I still have Gymseal on most of the cabin sole (severely sidetracked project of refinishing). The amazing thing is it hasn’t changed much over years of hard use. So the one thing I can say for sure is the stuff lasts a very long time on a cabin sole.
