View Full Version : Another Shoe Drops for my Wife

During the week she spent in the hospital following her accident she had a number of CT and MRI scans, several of which picked up a 1.8 cm mass on her thyroid. Probably benign but get it checked out when you feel better. She had the follow-up ultrasound 2 weeks ago and it's now 3.5 cm. A friend is doing the needle biopsy this Friday, but doubling in size in just past two months it probably needs to br removed. Just one more shoe dropping...

Best wishes. I think there's a positive here as if the collision hadn't happened then things may not have been diagnosed in time.

Best wishes to you and your wife.

As someone with direct experience with thyroid cancer here's my take; I hope you find something positive in it.

The vast majority of thyroid cancers are very very slow growing. Of the three methods used to determine the size in your wife's case I believe ultrasound is probably the least reliable. So this thing's doubling in size is not necessarily what happened. Possible, yes, but IMO highly unlikely.

If you or your wife would like to discuss my own experience I would be happy to communicate via PM or email.

Good luck!

Very scary . . . . Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

As others had said, it seems the accident was a blessing after all . . .

I expect God's got pretty good cross-referencing software.

Indeed...an early catch is so important. This is a silver lining to the accident that it was caught, whatever it is.

Wishing for the best!

Thanks folks. Her biopsy has been moved up a bit to early afternoon just about the time when the boy and I may be passing that area on the way to Connecticut for a sailing race. We're stopping into the office...if it is anything much more than very benign, the race is off for us and we're staying to offer comfort and support. Bugger of it all is it is Mother's day weekend- she had her last miscarriage on Mothers Day about 10 years back and lots of other tough things have happened about now. Lotsa good though...

If she hadn't had the accident the darn thing would have been very large by the time it was spotted. As was said above, this was an ill wind that blew some good.

Thinking of you. Early detection makes the whole difference. If it helps to know (I know you do), they can find things and discover relatively straight forward solutions, and not all lesions and lumps are cancerous.
We are all truly hoping for the best for her. I know she is nervous and going through hell. It's a tough time, but she will come out the other end OK.

No point worrying until they tell you to worry. Fat lotta good that advice does, but it is often some of the best you'll get! Hoorah! I know just how she feels. Congratulations!
