Was listening to the radio with the kid yesterday morning. Usually yuck! But this song came on, this woman's voice, wow. Rich, bluesy, angry, beautiful... Obviously pissed at some guy. The station never gives artists or titles so I had to go looking. This is what I found.

Very talented! Not really my style of music though, way too polished and overproduced.

This is more my level when it comes to honest music.

She has a gifted voice for sure, also not really my taste in music but she is very good at what she does.

Some years when The Two Towers came out in theaters I sat up and took notice of Emilíana Torrini, she is the Icelandic singer who performed Gollum's Song during the credits at the end of the movie. She has a voice that could best be described as haunting and when she performs with an orchestra as she did for the soundtrack it also takes on an ethereal quality.

Here are three of her offerings that are worth a few minutes, highly recommended listening.

Her 2 albums are 19 and 21. The older one is a bit winehouse and theres a couple of tracks I can't stand , but generally its a good album. 21 is breakthrough stuff for her though.

This track is amazing.Check out the 'production' on it, or lack of it.

I finally got around to picking up her CD 21. As usual, the radio released song that I discovered is now my least favorite, but still enjoyable. But some of the rest of the music is simply amazing. I really, really like it.

Cheers,

Bobby

I love the part in the video they show on VH1 when the drums come in and the thousand glasses of water start bouncing on the floor. Very cool visual.

Some very good interviews with her in the Q vaults, I believe (check QTV on Youtube or www.cbc.ca/q)

One of the soundtracks to the summer. Adele is the real deal - a craftswoman in spirit if you like

This is the other one that seems to have captured my feel for this summer. A couple of Alabama girls pretty well ignored in the US, but making waves over here in the UK, especially for us oldies who remember the late 60's/early 70's. a couple of vids, but lots of acoustic stuff to, they have the chops for it.

Just something to ponder...

Listen to the song "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley (it was a big hit in 2006, I think) and then listen to that Adel song ("Rolling in the Deep"). Detect any similarities?

Even better, listen to this mashup of the two songs (the instrumental track from "Crazy" with Adel's vocal from 'Rolling in the Deep"): http://www.rickey.org/crazy-in-the-deep-adele-vs-gnarls-barkley-mashup-mp3/

curious, isn't it?

Never heard of the Pierces. There is a woman named Beverly Joe Scott from Bay Minette in my home county who is supposed to be a bit of a star in Belgium. She comes home and plays some from time to time. Bluesy stuff.

Listening to her beautiful voice sing those bluesy love songs tonight. It hasn't finished growing on me yet. Good stuff.
