Ok, I'm new here (and to boat building) so bare with me!!

I'm looking to build a 15' to 20' wooden boat to be powered by a small inboard diesel with either a small protective keil or tunnel type drive. I'd like a hull style similar to the sailing hull posted recently called "Wee Seal" named "Opus". See the thread below with that title that includes some good pictures about half way down the thread of the hull hanging above a trailer. I'd probably blow the top cabin area upward, making it higher with more room as I won't have any sailing rigging to worry about.

I'd like the hull to go in as skinny water as possible as I'd like to be able to run it right onto the beach without damaging the srew.

Any idea's? Or ideas on where to find plans I could work with?

Surprise, at 19' LOA, or Big Surprise, at 21', by William and John Atkin. They both would fit your needs.
Atkin & Company

Noroton, CT 06820

This would be my pick. :D

Look through the plans offered on the WoodenBoat website...Redwing might fit the bill, except that it is not lapstrake (as Wee Seal is) and uses an outboard in a well. Then buy a copy of WoodenBoat magazine and pore through it, paying special attention to the "Launchings" section and the ads (classified and otherwise). Track down websites for Arch Davis, Shoestring Shipyard, Glen-L, Oldwharf Dory, Ken Hankinson, etc. Buy the Atkin & Co catalog (see ad in back of WB). Your head will be spinning before you know it!

I doubt you'd find a Wee Seal (designed by Iain Oughtred) to be a good cabin cruiser. There are many far more suitable designs for a powered boat.

Ken Hankinson (http://www.boatdesigns.com/)
Selway-Fisher (http://www.selway-fisher.com)
Glen-L Marine (http://www.glen-l.com)
Bruce Roberts (http://www.bruceroberts.com/)
are a few.

Duckworks Magazine (http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/boatindex/index.htm) has a long listing of available boat plans too.

Your problem won't be finding a plan, it will be choosing which plan to build!

Selway Fisher has a design called the Edwardian 19 or 21. It may be something sort of like you want. She is certainly lovely. It is a type of "Thames" style cruising launch.
