The Silva Bay Shipyard School had its 13th annual launch festival last weekend. Here are a few shots of the boats hitting the water.
Big crowd - first up is a Gartside 15'

Next was a very cool Trap Skiff with some incredible details:

And a sweet little Gartside 12'

I was sailing with the fleet for the rest of the day, so I don't have any pics of the boats underway - but the Gartside 15' was flying in about 12 knots of wind!

Quite lovely indeed.
When I read trapskiff, I thought this will be interesting, but "what the hell is that"?

Hahahaha
SB are you saying this West Coast edition doesn't cut the East Coast mustard?
Sadly, I do not know who designed the Trapskiff... need some boatschoolers on here.

...more Gartside boats to appreciate.
Congrats to the builders. Looked like a great day weather wise, too.

Even at half scale, they should have better than 6 or7 inches of free board. Not being cruel, just realistic,it looks like the lines were taken from a piece of folk art.

That looks a lot like a Walt Simmons designed trap skiff. And he is an east coaster at that.

Who is Walt Simmons and when did he start designing trapskiffs?

Good eye Mr. Madison. I asked around and it is a Walt Simmons design.
Not sure what SB is on about at half scale, as she is 19' long - perhaps he would prefer if we just built our own 'folk art' out here? There is lots of it...
Thank goodness the wooden boat world isn't so small that we would have to all appreciate each other!
