Kinda depends on the type of boat you want to restore. There is overlap, of course, but the skill set for restoring say a Cris Craft speedboat is different from restoring a carvel planked cruising sailboat or a plywood on frame dory. Depending on your project, a book called Wooden Boat Removation by Jim Trefethen might be a good place to start.

WHYankee, thanks. I have a 1948 Egg Harbor and a 1962 Egg.

If you are going to tackle a renovation or restoration, or even a decent sized repair job, it helps to know how the boat was built in the first place. I have found over the years the Bud Macintosh book, "How to build a wooden boat" is an invaluable tool.
I'll bet my copy is twenty years old and is starting to show it's age..
Our sponsor has a number of books on specific topics like frame and stem repair that are well written and full of information.

I second what willin woodworks says about knowing how wooden boats were built.

If you are in fact restoring an old runabout Danenburgs book is the bible. He wrote a lengthy piece on this forum about ten years ago on edge joining planks in place with a router.
He used to contribute fairly regularly and he was a font of valuable info and insight.
