As long as I am working, I will subscribe to it, but a paywall goes into effect tomorrow for the NYT.

Aside from their unmatched international coverage, they do a great job on so many different subjects. I spent last night and early this morning reading through a series of articles on Long Island Sound from 2003

Great stuff. Y>

What is a "paywall"?

I may subscribe, and I'm not even a regular NYT reader. However, as one who appreciates quality news more than free news, it would serve to counter the ingorant hord.

We like out local newspaper's website when we're away from home. I'm sure they will charge for the service eventually, and we'll pay for that, too.

I accepted the kind offer of Lincoln (the auto co.) to provide a subscription for the remainder of 2011.

But do not despair, irregular readers of the NYT. You will be able to read 20 articles per month accessed by perusing their website. If you find an article linked elsewhere (like the WBF) you can read any and all of those articles and they don't count toward the monthly limit of 20.

Ain't much of a paywall, in my opinion. But I'll cough up.

If you frequent the NYT site you should be getting pop-ups from Lincoln offering free subscriptions for the rest of the year. Accept that offer and you're good for 8 months.

Accept that offer and you're good for 8 months.According to Crains, it is a bit more complicated than that. The Lincoln offer was made available to only 200,000 readers, which is a small percentage

Consider yourself fortunate. I never received the offer.

We subscribe to the Sunday Times. Nothing like it. Drive home from the Shore doing the Crossword. Generally takes to Thursday to finish it without cheating by using google, etc.

Moi aussi. Very nice of them to offer. I no doubt will cough up the dough going forwrd when the freebie expires.
