So I was checking out a hotel in St. Augustine, and a very peculiar image pops up on the website. What's the oddball curvy rig on that little boat? :d

Oh, and if anyone might now, is the Montery Inn fit to sleep in? Mostly, I'm looking for that downtown location for a night.

Caledonia Yawl with a rather innovative vs. oddball rig. Works well for the owner.

Say what you will about the rig, it does have a distinct look, doesn't it?

I like it. I'm not building one for my CY mind you, but I like it.

You can't quite make out the oddball at the helm in the picture , but I think it's an old Ford ! Wox, for lodging downtown, try Casa de Solana or the St. Francis Inn , Scott

Scott -- Thanks for tips. The B&Bs have two-night minimums, unless there's a room open a week before the date. I'll try them again closer to the trip.

Yo guys,

Kenjamin here. I moved back to my hometown of St. Augustine back in December of last year and have been very busy renovating my 1925 cottage. Very pleased to say the bathroom is finished but the kitchen is still calling for me.

It appears someone not only had the nerve to steal my picture of Xena sailing Matanzas Bay but they also stretched the heck out of it.

Have not even had the chance to sail Xena since moving back and worst, I lost all my links to all my posted pictures here on the forum when someone tried to help me with my website.

Those of you who have been following my patent pending curved mast design might be interested to know that the patent lawyer for FSU is still fairly optimistic about FSU and I receiving a patent and we should know something more in a few months. It's taking forever but hopefully it will be worth the wait someday. We've been trying to get a patent for almost four years now. At the beginning of the process the lawyer told me it was his job to make the description of the invention as broad and all encompassing as possible and I think that's been the problem all along. I'd just like to get a patent on something before I croak as I have other patents I'd like to pursue if this one ever sells.

Hopefully, when the dust settles on the kitchen renovation, I'll be able to generate some new pictures of Xena Sailing the Matanzas Bay. I've got something in the works for a smaller rig that I can easily handle for solo work and that I can set or strike completely on the water. The birdwing mizzen I built for last year's WoodenBoat Show at Mystic is just too big ( I don't like the way it looks) but it may make a great small rig for solo work. No shortage of wind to work with around here. The afternoon sea breeze usually really blows plus the new mizzen (now a small main) can also set a jib and I still have the old small mizzen.

There's other news but my typing finger is getting a bit cramped.

I sure miss Chuck (Paladin). The forum is not quite the same without him.

Fair winds,
kenjamin

For a one-night stay, the Monterey should be fine. Anastasia Inn - just over the Bridge of Lions - is a little newer (by like 40 years). Seriously, the Monterey is 60's vintage, but one of the few remaining non-franchise hotels on the west (downtown) side of the bay.

For a strict "nap and a crap" stay, the Anchorage Inn is at the foot of the east end of the BOL and has its own little marina.

I trust you are aware that you have to let me know when you're going to be here so I can give you the "tour" :) ;) !

Let me know if you need help with the cabinet project.

Seriously.

Margo, I need an excuse to take Xena out if you and a couple of friends want to go for a sail.

MiddleAgesMan, I just bought cheap stock cabinets from Lowes as there are more important things to do in life besides kitchens. Got to get back to boat building and soon.

Hi everyone, first time poster. Just looked around the old Internet and scrounged this photo. http://s374.photobucket.com/albums/oo187/Bayman_bucket/SAILBOATS/?action=view&current=KenjaminsCY2.jpg&currenttag=Sailboats#!oZZ7QQcurrentZZhttp%3A%2F%2F s374.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Foo187%2FBayman_buc ket%2FSAILBOATS%2F%3Faction%3Dview%26current%3DCur vedBirdwingmast.jpg%26currenttag%3DSailboats
sorry about the rediculous link but looks to be a very similar boat.

Yes, that's my boat, Xena, on her maiden sailing voyage at Mystic Seaport WoodenBoat Show in 2007. Here she is again in her home waters of Matanzas Bay, St. Augustine, August 2009.
