Yanmars are generally pretty to very desirable. That one in the U Tube needs caressing. I'd start with valve adjustment

I'll go with the Yanmar YSM, but can't tell if it's the 8 horse or the 12. That's just surface rust...

Time was they'd put small engines in decent sized boats, they even called them "auxiliary". Now all boats are motor sailors and thats probably good

Good point. The 2hp on my Typhoon has so far been enough to keep me out of trouble.

Forget about going into strong headwinds though...30mph? forget it.

But then if you are going to have some smelly noisy space-taking-up contraption, might as well have some oomph to it.
