I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with the Chenoa and Hiawatha canoe design by Jacques Mertens. The Hiawatha looks very nice to me but I'm afraid it might be a little e tippy. I've emailed the guys at Jem-watercraft and they said that a 14' version of either would be good for two people with little gear and the 16' would definitely be good for the above with gear. I will probably go with the 14' Chenoa as it seems a little more simple for my first time efforts. It will be built with occume and whatever else I can scrounge up.

Thanks,

Patrick Ford

Patrick,
From what I've read on bateau2.com I believe that the canoes were designed by Matt Lagenfeld in N.C. and are marketed thru' the above web site.

Wild Dingo posted a shot with three people in it, including a large adult. I think he built it with no glass. Maybe he will see your posts.

Hey you guys are talking about me behind my back! ;)

Jacques designed those a long time ago. He offered to have me sell them through my site to get things rolling since I just started up this past Nov.

I'm a one-man show so it'll take me a while to build my library of plans. Always looking for new suggestions.

Chenoe and Hiawatha will be close in stabilty, generally speaking. What the deciding factor will be is the waters you paddle in.

If you look at the study plans, there's a link to picture showing a cross-section hull compare of the Chenoe, Hiawatha, and the Townsend canoes. Townsend is one of my designs.

FYI: I joined this forum to discuss boats. Not looking to commercialize. Just like talking about boat buildng!

Shamlessly stolen from your site, JEM, for all to view. This has been my methood in the place of conventional weights, when needed extras and a topic of discussion many times around here. They require no screws and easily adjusted without stress. ;)

Left out this tip, also.
