Just scanning some old photos and came across these. A 16' skiff that I built for a friend in 1988.

Another one built a few years later. It was in Sag Harbor, NY until a few years ago. I heard it had been sold to someone in Vermont.

Nice, what design. Also what did you use for planking stock on the first one?

It's my own design. I really just drew a set of lines that my friend liked and decided on the scantlings as I built it. The first boat was planked with western white pine. Not a great choice but just prior to this I had built a 14' skiff for a man who owned a lumber yard and that's what he supplied me with. This guy liked the clear pine and wanted the same for his boat. It lasted well enough for him and the next owner. The third owner didn't maintain the finish and the boat suffered. The western pine has little (no) rot resistance and doesn't hold up well without paint or oil.
The second boat was planked with cypress. Boat boats had locust stems, white oak frames, chines, and rails, and mahogany transoms. The knees were mostly cherry, maybe a few oak ones.

I thought the boat was the Macomber 15, designed by Scott Gifford in 2000, and plans available through Woodenboat.
