View Full Version : Boat Builders in Northern Virginia

Spinning off from the Central Virginia thread, I'm looking for boat builders in Northern Virginia (I'm in Alexandria) to offer advice as I build Corvus, Withholz's 15' catboat. Pattern-making is moving along and pretty soon I'll start cutting some very expensive wood. I've built two glued lapstrake boats, Tom Hill's 16' canoe and a Nutshell, but Corvus is a big step up for my skill level. I'm looking into the Alexandria Seaport Foundation, but would like to see who else is nearby.

The Alexandria Seaport Foundation is your best bet. We have an open shop every Tuesday night at 7:00 at the Seaport Center(a floating shop behind The Chart House restaurant). We are currently putting the finishing touches on a Haven 12 1/2. I think that I am one of only two ASF people who are members of this forum.

I'm near Harrisonburg. Can't help you with your catboat, but I'd be up for an EBS sometime. Are you aware of the Eastern Messabout Group? Planning a get together (messabout) June 3, just across the Potomac from you, basically.
Stan, I used to live in McLean, too.

I am in Ashburn Va. Not far at all. I would be glad to discuss anything you like.

Dave, that messabout you mentioned is about 2 hours away from D.C., on the other side of the Bay almost at the very northern tip.
But on a personal note, You didn't grow up in McLean, did you? Your name sounds familiar.
