we're losin them pretty fast now

Uncle Russ is gone now...here's his hat (Pacific theater from the beginning until 1945 when he got a head ache and went home)

My father was in on three of the major beach assaults in Europe. On the last one he got hit across the abdomen, his guts fell out on the beach in front of him and when the red cross was retrieving bodies 4 days later they found him still alive. He came home and had 4 kids then died of a heart attack at age 31. I was 7, don't remember much about him, but can still see the huge scar, like a giant rip across his entire lower stomach. I remember he had a hat like that. I would really like to have been able to talk with him as a young man, am glad that I am still here for my kids.

Sorry for your loss, Phillip (really, it's our loss, in a way.) My condolences.

Sorry to hear about your uncle.

I've mentioned my friend Naoma. She's the widow of a shipmate of Pops: 1917-1980 RIP. Lt. USN. South Pacific.

Naoma has done yeoman's service to the vets from their ship over the years. Organizing reunions, writing news letters, etc. She's currently away from home caring for a shipmate with diabetes.

                    We could all do more.
