Good dog! If you have the time and dedication, there's nothing like a Jack Russell Terrorist.

A guy was in the bar after work drinking a pint of bitter. Sitting on the stool, he boasted that his old hunting dog could count the birds in the neighbor's copse of trees before the hunter spoted them. Another gent said to the guy, "no way! He can't count" "Oh but he can." was the reply. I'll tke you out tomorrow and prove it to you.

The next day with guns at the ready the dog owner and his new buddy headed out to the woods with the dog quatering the shrubs. A few minutes later, the dog appeared with one stick... Sure enough there was one grouse..The dog goes out again and returns with three sticks. Again, there were three grouse in the woods.. "See, said the owner, what did I tell you?" "Still don't believe it..." grumbled the other gent. So the dog goes out again and comes back after a few minutes, dragging a stick, barking, and shaking all over.. "What the hell, screamed the second gent." what the heck is wrong with him? he is acting crazy." The second gent, fearing for his life, shoots the dog...The dog owner yells at him, " what the heck are you doing? What the heck have you done?"
"You shot him!!!!!" The second gent says," I thought he had gone crazy." In response the owner says, " he wasn't crazy, there were just more birds in there than he could shake a stick at, you damn'd idiot."

I used to mind a pair of Cairn Terrierists for a friend when she went out of town. It was a joy to have them around. They were well trained, refrained from going after Shadow the cat, who was never happy when they came to visit. Comical and intelligent little dogs. Their name, IIRC, comes from their ratting skills amongst the cairns of Northern Britain.
