I am looking for information on the Penobscot 17 designed by Arch Davis. Does anyone have experience with this boat or knowledge? I am thinking sailing qualities, stability etc. This boat would be used on small inland lakes in Western and Central New York State. thank you, Mick

There's a very nice Penobscot 17 for sale on the Woodenboat Boats for Sale site. Pics included. Looks like a beauty. Located in Wisconsin, I think.

Best regards,

Irv

I have no information on the P17, but built a P14 which I sailed a few times. the P14 was fun but one needs to pay attention when sailing her. Freeboard is low and it does not take much to take water over the rail. But if one pays attention, she is fun to sail and has plenty of room.

I saw two of them up at Port Townsend in the fall, on trailers, and they were not a small boat. They seemed like an awful lot of boat for the length. I did not have any way to go out in one, but there is a big jump between 14 and 17.

theres a lot of info on the site about the PB17. She is a popular design, straight forward to build and sails well.
