Watching a game used to be fun. On a cold fall day wrapped up and sitting in the bleachers. Tailgating etc. But its become a huge money machine and this has destroyed the please for me

Perhaps the Ivy league is a bit better. At least it gives the impression that education means something. An Ivy game just seems to be fun.

I sense that Oxford and Cambridge are considered loosely similar to our Ivy league in its emphasis on education.

Yes, and you do really have to be a real student - often an American student - to get in the boat.

Of course it's fun. Without any serious athletic ability and therefore real competition, that's all that's left.
