View Full Version : Ham, the leftover story.

Everyone's gone back to college and no one wanted to pack up some ham.
We've done the pea soup, navy bean soup, carbonara deal. Fried, omletted, eaten with baked beans, with mac and cheese, with scalloped potatoes
I'm running out of ideas...

If you like it in soups and other recipes, why not cut it into the size chunks you need for soup and freeze those chunks individually for future use when you're not so tired of ham?

I contacted the Patchogue Rescue Mission on your behalf. They're sending forty-seven guys over to your house for dinner. They're probably coming up your front walk about now...

You'll find this in a couple of previous threads on the subject, but: grind or shred it and mix it with your favourite spicy mustard. Make a batch of simple biscuit dough, roll it into a rough rectangle, spread the ham on the dough, and roll it up. Slice it into pinwheels and pack into a pan, and bake until the biscuit mix is cooked. Meanwhile, make a cheddar cheese sauce - really cheesy; serve the biscuits with cheese sauce and your choice of sides.

Number one recipe for leftover ham around my family, bar none.

What's for dinner by you two?

I'm working in Alabama for the next few days staying with my mom. She bought two nice steaks from my favorite butcher and asked me to cook her a good steak tonight. Lucky me eh?:d

Not sure what Katherine's having. . .

Had a late lunch of leftover pizza, going to a potluck this evening. Nothing terribly creative I'm afraid - we're so busy working on the house that I just picked up a dip platter at the grocery store. The shame of it all...

I like it chopped fine and mixed with mayo and chopped pickles (ham salad) on toast with lettuce, or grilled without the lettuce and with chopped onions and cheddar. Good cold weather lunch.

Brilliant! Brilliant and delicious!

Boy, that must have been one huge ham to have any left over after going through that list!

Hi Emily-
This time of year it's so economical to get the biggest ham given the price per pound. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that there are only 3 of us here at home every day now... Turkey was just as big- 29cents a pound and brined to perfection. Had no trouble serving that up and the soup from it was just fantastic!

I'm lucky pup likes turkey and I put a little ham on the side as treat.

Definition of eternity...two people and a ham...happened to me and the wife. Froze big chunks of it, had ham parties for our single friends and packed them leftovers...fed a lot of folks. Took a while to get rid of all the ham, though. Good thing we both like pea soup and that it was a cold winter.

I'm told two people and a black bear is even more "eternal", but that's not personal experience, fortunately.

Thanks for the chuckle. It's so true.

Fresh ham am more better....lotsa garlic, salt and pepper (corns) a little oregano, olive oil and lime juice...more garlic and a little soy sauce, cook overnight about 190 degrees....love the leftovers.
