Can't make this up, this is for real. Never have I seen this, but tis true.

I'm out of town tonight and the wife calls me and says I have a package at the house which was delivered by UPS. What the hell, I'm not expecting anything in the mail. So she opens it up and finds a quart paint can inside a plastic bag and the can is stuffed with high grade Mary Jane, pot, weed that is.

Well of course they called the police and nothing less than 4 cop cars show up at the house, bet the neighbors loved that. But anyway apparently this is a new thing (or maybe an old one I've never heard of). The buyer orders this stuff from the grower how packages it up and uses a fake sender's address and mails to an address where they don't expect the home owners to be home. They mail it 3 day select with a guaranteed delivery date. They expect the home owner to not be home and that UPS will leave it sitting on the front porch whereas the buyer just goes by and takes it off the front porch.

Kinda screwy but true.

Sure it was just one paint can?

Well I"m not really sure. The wife is the one that signed for the "paint" can from UPS.

I have a friend who works for UPS and I have heard about this technique. Apparently it is not uncommon. Sounds like they (the sender and intended receiver) kind of screwed up this time or their luck simply ran out...

Better some weed being sent to you than letters and packages sent to your ex wife and boat club from some real life coward from the WBF like I did.

I'm a bit worried about them showing up to find it, but the cops reassured my wife that they would increase patrols by our house and she will keep the alarm set. Yeah I worry about this. Thing about it is we life in a good neighborhood and our neighbors will also help keep a lookout.

On the bright side this might just be the excuse I need to get a Rottie.

My guess is that since the plan failed this time at your house they will probably not try your house again. Between having lost the dope this time and knowing that you are now clued into what is going on (and there is a good chance they came by when the cops were there and saw them too) they will probably avoid your house like it was a police station!

OK... I confess. I had bobbys do it.

Now that the misdirection has been successfully pulled off... and that pkg. of dirtweed had been confiscated... and you've established yourself as a high-minded, upright citizen... he'll send someone around for the second package. You didn't tell anyone about the second package, now did you? <G>

So... does your wife open paint cans for fun? What was the motivation to open said can? If I got a paint can, I'd think, "Hmmm paint. Guess I'll send it back or use it when I need it." Opening to see what is inside would not be high on my list because, well, it's a paint can... what was the tip off?

Jim Mahan

A can of pot wouldn't heft the same as paint.

Generally, if you ship illicit materials in cans, you provide a false top or bottom or both and make sure it weighs approximately the same. This is basic resistance fighter stuff, but we are talking about pot...

THis true. I taught with an art teacher at a school in England.. Long hair the works. One night the headmaster got a call to bail him out of jail.. Seems he bought a bag or either oregano or basil. Not sure which...but green and dry. Was arrested for having a bag of grass. The students and faculty got a kick out of that

He wasn't buying grass. He was getting oregano at the store and it was a bobby on a bicycle that stopped him

So, you got any brownies?

I remember back in the day when a party in Cambridge was arrested after selling a narco a back of weed. When the lab checked the stuff it was, IIRC oregeno. In any case the party was then rearrested 'Theft of county funds', maybe fraud, too, I don't recollect.

Funny i thought the roads to your house were choked, dangerous interstate highways, with hyper-aggressive truckers and oversize fuel-guzzling personal vehicles, most carrying a single obese driver. Who is often drifting on one medication or other, while talking on a cellphone. .

That drifting explains what the delivery package is.
See you thought i was not paying attention!>G<

Okay, I realize that there is not an aptitude test for criminals, but really. First, you pick someone's house who's not usually home during the day. Clearly, this was some stoner neighbors, who, under the influence, decided that "that dude, Chad. I know his address"was good enough. "All we gotta do is go next door". And then, a quart size can? Really? Certainly not 32 lbs. Way to think big.

No, I just think you're in the grip of delusion. The highways, especially in winter, are hell. Why do you think I get my deliveries in an AWD Beamer, from an ex-CIA agent, and not a rusty Ford van, driven by an illegal immigrant?

That's America. If you want quality, you better be able to pay.

I have a friend whose two teenage boys found a bail of grass floating in Biscayne Bay. The took it home to their dad who gave them a lecture about how dangerous it was for them to have picked it up, etc. etc. etc. He told them he'd dispose of it and not to tell anyone about finding it or they'd get in trouble. You can imagine the rest of the story.

A gazillion years ago.............
There was a tramp running the caribbean. It was used as an arms hauler via cuba, haiti and a few others. My job was to bug it, for tracking. It took 4 months but mission accomplished. It was being tracked out of Jamaica to Grand Cayman, so we decided to "check it out". It had problems or was scuttled we're not sure, as the capt may have been suspicious. She went down, hatches open, and bales of prime grade grass floated free for weeks. The standing joke was the entire island rose 6 feet out of the sea for months. The name of the boat......."ora Verde".....
