MAIB cover boat, what is it?

I figured someone would post about it, but can't find one.

It's the August 1 issue.

I think it looks lovely, and certainly traditional, but was wondering what its intended use would be with the low freeboard.

Anyone know?

I know Kevin calls it a wherry, but the plan source I don't know -- might have to ask him. Most wherries were river/inshore craft. this one sure is handy and capable.

Boat is designed by Pete Culler, but modified by Kevin, e.g the side decks. Don't remember which Pete Culler boat. Suggest that you contact Peter Vermilya at Mystic to get the data from Kevin's Small Craft workshop registration. Mystic has the Culler plans.

Ben, I was going to guess it was a Culler, the powder horn sheer up forward pointed in that direction, although I wasn't sure. Thanks for the ID, it sure is a beautiful boat.

I haven't yet received the 8/1 issue of MAIB (mail delivery to DC is a bit slow), but I do have a copy of "Pete Culler's Boats" (the complete design catalog). As soon as the mag comes in I'll flip through the book and see if I can come up with the design.

Okay, so I've looked at the pictures and the book. Darned if I know. I'd need more info, and a clear shot of the transom, etc., before I could hazard a guess.

That was my first thought when I looked at the catalog, and it's definitely a possibility.

Thanks for the ideas. It isn't of grave importance that I know exactly what it is.

It struck me as being an elegant and sensible small craft; easily paddled, roomy, and relaxing to sail. He looks like he's having fun...

I figured someone would know right off, just to satiate my curiosity. Didn't mean to get people doing serious research.
