I just obtained another boat (YIKES -- that makes six and only two float!). The latest addition is an 18 ft. Sea Gull Cabin sailboat made by Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. of Peshtigo, Wisconsin. It's about a 1937 year model. The Thompson catalogs say this model was designed by William F. Crosby.

She has a cuddy cabin, which is original. The boat could be ordered with or without the cabin. She's all intact and everything is there. She's been sitting unprotected outdoors for several years and she has some major decay. I've squirreled her away into storage and may get to a restoration job in several years.

I'd like to get some more information on Mr. Crosby and the Sea Gull design. Any tips?

This is from a 1950's Rudder plan catalog:
SEAGULL L.O.A. 18', Beam 7', Draft 10", S.A. 165 sq. ft., Designer- William F Crosby.
Seagull is a Marconi-rigged sloop well suited to afternoon sailing and short cruises. She has moderate deadrise and requires no steam bending. This is a husky, well balanced little boat. Total weight is about 1000 lbs. Seagull cannot be constructed of plywood. Plans for a small cuddy appear on the blueprint.
Blueprint: $10.00

There is a deck layout and sail plan included in the catalog. The plans must have been published in a Rudder magazine at some time. Perhaps you could check the online index to rudder plans.

Bob, this one's for the future Thompson Boat museum my father and I are contemplating for Peshtigo! All we need is a big, fat government grant to make it a go (or a deep pocket donor)!

holzbt: The Thompson catalog from 1937 has about the same verbage as the 1950s Rudder plan book.

The index shows this design as being in the November 1930 issue of Rudder. You might see if Mystic could photo copy the article and mail if to you.
