View Full Version : Shipping methods on boat hardware
Anyone have any recommendations on shipping about 150lbs of hardware from Nova Scotia to Whidbey Island? Cheap is all that matters. I dont care if it takes 2 months by snail back express.
Also what about safely paying for something that isn't on Ebay.
I'd look into shipping it to the closest point in Canada to you and picking it up there, as to your second question. I hope the forum comes through for you.

I get a lot of stuff coming the other way... US to Canada.
First choice: USPS or Canada Post. There will be weight limits per box, but it's the cheapest way.
Second choice: Fedex. Fairly cheap, and only a token brokerage fee of ten bucks to process it at customs.
LAST CHOICE: UPS...absolutely god awful people to deal with. Horrific brokerage fees at the border, terrible delivery policies to private homes, long wait for your package on top of that.
I have never been screwed by someone who I sent a money order to, but if you pay by PAYPAL, you are automatically insured for loss.
What Gareth says is the best way... wait for someone to pipe up;)

Are there USPS drop-off points in NS ?

You do not need shipping you need FREIGHT OR Drayage. Magic words.

If this is an option - Greyhound does courier service country wide. We've had good luck using them for larger, heavier items.
Nova Scotia drop off points (http://www.greyhound.ca/HOME/en/location/locations.aspx?state=ns&name=Nova%20Scotia)
What are your package weight and size restrictions?
The maximum weight per package is 100 pounds. EXCEPT for Ontario and East locations maximum seventy-five (75) lbs. The extreme measurements of length, width, and height shall not exceed 24" x 40" x 84".

AFAIK, if they mail it Canada Post, USPS will deliver in the US.
