I'll be giving a series of talks over the coming winter, it's a chance for friends to get together on a Saturday and talk boats. They'll all be in a big woodworking shop here in Silva Bay, and run 10:00-4:00 with a long lunch break.
October 23rd
WOODEN BOATBUILDING TODAY : Combining Traditional and Modern Practice
I'll start in the morning with a discussion of wood engineering and structural engineering of boats. In the afternoon we'll get into various modern boatbuilding methods and the combining of modern and traditional materials and methods.
December 4th
TRADITIONAL RIGS SYMPOSIUM
Basic aerodynamics, sail shapes, and hull/rig interaction. In the afternoon we'll get to specific rig analysis with looks at engineering, handling, materials, and hardware.
February 5th
BC TRADITIONAL BOATS: History and Current Status
An overview of traditional boats in BC, current restoration projects, and the nature and methods of these projects. Of particular interest to me is finding ways to use the historic vessels we have, and to insure a future for them.
March 19th
VESSEL STABILITY: Myths and Reality
The physics of transverse stability, calculation methods, and analysis of various hulls and their actual stability under various conditions. Also discussion of stability requirements and regulations worldwide.
It should be a fun and interesting program, not at all formal with much back and forth, please bring questions.........drop me a note and let me know you're coming
