in the manner that the Iraqi Navy did so today?

Eschewing the bottle of champagne that is traditionally broken against the bow of newly acquired vessels in the Western world, a sheep was slaughtered on the pier to mark the boat’s entry into service with the Iraqi fleet.

Virgin sacrifice is so much more appropriate.

Depends upon where and from who (whom?) they procured the sheep and how you define "virgin". Any Kiwis care to illuminate?

Next time my boat goes in the water, I'm having a mutton pie and a can of Speight's Ale to celebrate.

As a born-again heathen infidel, I've never "christened" a boat in my life. I don't believe in wasting champagne either. That's a wretched superstition and a waste of good hooch!

56 times & counting, and no booze wasted once, if anyone's keeping track.

I did the dastardly deed three times in Thailand, and when I returned home almost 2 years later, it took 3-4 months to gather all the notes and papers together with all the taxes etc. My radio licenses have been reinstated, and if I wish to continue my carreer I may do so. Firearms are returned.
