I haven't showed this to my sweetie, because I suspect she'd immediately insist that I build one for her. I really do think she was a woods-elf in a past life. I suspect I was a dolphin or somesuch.

Put it on a lake and that'd be my dream house.

The neatest tree house I have ever seen was on the Rio Dulce in Guatamala. The house was in this monster tree that rose straight up with a massive trunk about 20-25 feet off the ground near the river, then it seemed all the branches just spread out. It had a hand operated water pump to pump water into an overhead, perhaps 20-30 gallon day tank, an American style head with a large PVC pipe going down to the septic tank....and a 2 people elevator to assist when bringing groceries or something home.....stairs let other critters in also. I awoke one morning and a dozen different "somethings" were playing on the "porch". Locals built the house for about $300 U.S. for an American.

Then there's this one. IIRC, it's a restaurant in Hong Kong. Maybe some of our globetrotters can confirm or correct.

Then there's this one. At first blush, I like it. In fact... one would have to carefully consider:

I'm planning on getting to this place next year... the Gibbon Experience in Laos. Their treehouses are between 100' and 200' up... accessed by flying foxes (zip lines)

I have a book on tree houses somewhere around here, I think the one in the OP is in it.
