aloha, curious whether anybody out there has built one of these skiffs..we completed ours and succesfully launched it a few months ago..we had a few problems with placement of ballast.. ended up putting 250lbs under the cockpit floor..150lbs of diesel engine, pretty much put it on a even keel, but as there is no waterlines on the plan it is hard to know how much is too much...after having looked into every thread there is ..Reul Parkers design seems to be closest to what we have, but it looks kind of deep in the water for a seabright skiff...the boat is a little tipsy so I think that I will have to make a hollow mast instead of the solid fir mast we have now!! It might be a little overbuilt for a seabright skiff but it is built on the lines and plan from the book..along with the engine room ,with the exception of the cuudy cabin..be interesting to see another one to compare with..anyway except the huge amount of gasoline it takes for us to get it to water we are having lots of fun with it..150 miles roundtrip!! derrick

MaizieD, I liv on the jersey shore were the jersey skiff, seabright skiff and pound boats were used for fishing. When the hull was full with the days catch that was your ballast, generaly beached right through the surf, with some modifcations they were then used as surf life boats. Still used today. Just some trivial local info, as for ballast amount, its however much is needed to balance the boat per what your using it for i.e. pleasure or work. Great tough boats. Good luck with it. Any pics?

moved the ballast to thecockpit and have since moved up the stern waterline 3inches ,2inches at the front.looks like a hollow mast will be an improvement on stability, and going to melt the ballast into flat plates and bolt them on under the cockpit...Otherwise I will have to make the centerboard heavier.. right now it has 1/4 inch bronze plate sanwhiched in between 2 layers of plywood fiberglassed over!! Lots of fun anyhow!

Wow Derrick. You have done a fine job of it. Boat seems to be riding high and well trimmed, particularly once a full crew is aboard.

Great job!!!
