Jon Boden is doing an interesting project to which one can subscribe on iTunes or your podcast method of the day.

He's recording one English "folk song" every day for a year - started in June.

Boden says that when he started playing fiddle and melodeon in pubs he realized that he needed to know the repertoire of stuff that was pretty much common to that crowd, and so he started getting these songs and their tunes down. The result of that is this project - which thus far seems to contain an awful lot of stuff that I've been hearing for years in a similar type of crowd.

If this is your thing, and I know it's pretty far out there, check it out. If you're even slightly interested in things like sea shanties, there are plenty of them in the mix.

Emily, have you heard his album Songs From The Floodplain? It's stunningly good.

I've never listened to an entire album of his, but I've certainly heard a bunch of what he does. Some places he's in don't attract me at all, but this project is really neat.

When I was in HS (1960s) there was a folksinger who said she wrote a song a day. Mahalia Jackson maybe?
