The world’s biggest sailing ship is currently on its way to Iceland, according to Russian news website, Ria Novosti.

The ship is called Sedov and is a three-masted barque.

It is a sailing vessel, NOT A SHIP! To be specific, it a four masted BARQUE.

I've heard a bull mastiff bark but never a four masted barque.

I believe the rather newer ROYAL CLIPPER is bigger than the (ex) MAGDALENE VINNEN II.

Sidenote: They painted the SEDOV (classic black&white of all P-Liner) and filmed the sinking of the PAMIR on it in 2005.

why is it a barque?Three or more masts, square sails on all but the aftermost mast, which is fore-and-aft rigged.

Please explain why a big sailing vessel isn't a ship. I'll edit the Wikipedia entry for you.

I'm guessing that a ship (or ship rigged) is a three masted ship square rigged on all mast and everything else would be a sailing vessel.
