A photo history of the Vette

    Starting with the 1953 C1 (1953-1962)

    More of the C1

    1962 C1

Moving on to the C2 (1963-1967) This series will have one of my favorites, the 1963 split window.

              Saggy arms?

Yeah, I know what you mean.

I'm not a big Vette fan, but it's still one of the great automotive stories. They've maintained the car and brand since day one, and the car just gets better and better. They're also now one of the best sports car buys out there. I'd also say it's the only thing GM has got right over the years -- and the executives have never shown any real appreciation of the division.

Of course I expected you not to like it, you like nothing American. No surprise there.

Vettes lost it. Once Zora Arkus Duntov left the building they turned into fat sloppy pigs.

Legendary ZL-1 engined Corvette. (factory rated at 485 HP, most agree it was really 585!!!)

Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

In a nostalgic sort of way I appreciate that racecar quite a bit. Would I want one like that? No.

I sure wouldn't mind a more stock 1969 big block vette with sidepipes, a four speed, and a monochromatic paintjob though

The earliest Vets were (under)powered with a straight six. They were beaten by Mustangs. That could not be tolerated.

When I was at the University of Michigan in the 1950's one of my fraternity brothers had for a few days the Corvette that would to be the pace car for the Indy 500. His father was chief engineer for Chevy. That created a stir. Later he bought his own car, a 1928 Franklin four door sedan, one of the last I think. It was interesting, a water cooled straight six F Head engine of modest power.

built on the foundation of cheap gas, but that really has nothing to do with corvettes
