View Full Version : My first perfect car repair....not so much

First, I am a butcher of a carpenter and probably a worse mechanic.

Just replaced my first radiator on my tow vehicle, a 1995 ford van based RV. Not usually the case but everything went without a hitch. No extra parts; about 3 hours start to finish. Filled it up just as it was getting dark.....and it leaks from the factory seams...... I'll have it pressure tested later in the week.

It's got a plastic bottom and the sides appear bolted on. I tightened as much as I dared. Who knows how long this thing has been sitting a warehouse. Any chance there is an old paper gasket in there that will take up/swell overnight and stop the leak?

I put in a new radiator in our jeep and it kept overheating.

I tried everything even took out the thermostat,

Put new hoses on.

No luck.

What was wrong was the little spout going to the overflow bottle was not big enough from the factory.
I drilled it out and it works great.

One cannot count on anything

I put six "factory rebuilt" starters in my E-350 Ford van over a period of three years. Finally put in an original equipment new starter and never again had a starter problem. Lesson learned.
