First, the disclaimer... I have no connection with Harbor Freight other than as a (very) occasional customer.

I got a spam email from them yesterday and hot footed it down to the local Horror Fright store lickety split.

They've got EIGHT INCH C-clamps on sale for TWO BUCKS EACH. I bought a case of twelve for twenty-six bucks including tax. These aren't high quality drop-forged jobs, but entirely suitable for amateur boatshop work. At this price, there's no excuse to ever borrow clamps again. I have a bunch of sixes, but usually the eight inchers are way more expensive.

This is an internet coupon offer titled "Dollar Days - July 8-18." The clamps aren't listed on their website ad, but were listed with a download coupon on the "preferred customer email list" ad they sent me. (You can sign up for that on the website) I pulled it up on my iPhone and they gave me the two buck price, even though I hadn't printed out the coupon.

Usually, anything Horror Fright sells that has moving parts is probably unreliable, but every now and then, if you follow their ads, you can hit pay dirt.

Thanks for the tip. The cheap Jorgensen wooden clamp knockoffs are also worth getting from them **when on sale** if you can't find the real thing at the flea markets.

probably cast iron but ok if you don't get too heavy handed. Probably break before the handle bends.

I have 20 of the 4" version of the same HF clamp that I got for $1 on sale. Good clamps that have built many boats.

The only reason I go is for the clamps and tarps (not for sails). Not the best clamps, but if kept clean, they are one-handed. Got four buckets full myself (6",5",4",3"), all bought for less than $2 ea.

I think I have some of those .If they're the same, they have a standard machine screw thread , much finer than "real" C clamps .This is a nuisance ,but they're still worth it at the price.
